John Cena def Randy Orton to keep the World Title
WNW reader Chris sent this follow-up to an earlier report of an incident involving Randy Orton at last night's Ft. Lauderdale, Florida Raw house show. Below is his update:
Just wanted to clarify a little about the Randy Orton fan incident at the Ft. Lauderdale house show last night. The report you have is mostly true but inaccurate simply because the person sending it wasn't as close (which he admits). I had a much closer seat to the incident...
The incident was very much like he said, except Orton never touched the fan and the drink that was thrown was not thrown by the same fan, as it was clearly thrown from several rows behind him. And when the drink was thrown, the fan was already going at it with security. The fan proceeded to fight back against several security guards, one of which was a female. At this point, several police officers came over and the man was dragged away while fighting back aggressively. I didn't see a tasing happening but I wouldn't doubt that it happened as the man had to definitely be subdued.
While I don't condone the incident...as a long time fan, I have to say that I was proud to see Randy Orton able to incite this much emotion from a crowd. This is the type of genuine heel heat that long time fans have heard of from old time heels such as Freddy Blassie, Roddy Piper, Sgt. Slaughter, Iron Sheik, and others. Its a shame that this went so far, but I hope the WWE realizes that Randy Orton has become one impressive heel.
Wrestling News World reader Matt from Port St. Lucie, FL sent the following:
Last night at the Bank Atlantic Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Randy Orton was involved in a physical altercation with a fan that led to the fan being tased by security at ringside. During the main event (John Cena vs. Randy Orton) a fan in the first row of the far right corner decided to put his hands on Orton outside the ring after Orton threw Cena into the steel steps. I didn't have the best view of "Who started it" because the seats I had we're opposite the altercation and I was about 8 rows back. After the origional contact by the fan Orton actually fell to the ground. When he got up, he went off (I dont blame him). From first glance it looked as if Orton had his hands around the fans neck and then security seperated them. Orton then proceded to scream "Get him out of here" for a good 45 seconds and then entered the ring and stood on the turnbuckle and scremed some more for the fan to be ejected. When security approached the fan, he refused to leave and threw a full drink into the ring that soaked the ref and just missed Orton.
A security guard in my section told us that the fan was then tased and removed from the building. It was a wild incident to say the least.
Main Event: Randy Orton v. John Cena for World Heavyweight Title
I didn't hear any boos for Orton but the cheers weren't that overwhelming. Cena was definitely pop of the night. Orton dominated most of the match. He did his methodical stomps and headlocks. Interesting part of the match happened when Cena was outside the ring.
Orton rolled out the ring and began jawing with a man in the front row. The guy was in Santino's Italia shirt and had multiple signs all night. Apparently the guy most have said some truly mean stuff because Orton got right in his face. Then Orton threw Cena into the stairs and pointed out his action to the fan. He then got back into the fan's face and the argument continued. Security soon rushed to the area and the match continued. Or so we thought. The fan was being escorted and he wasn't going quietly. He was slamming the guard rail and wouldn't let go as three or four officers pulled on him. Orton was in the ring shouting at him to get out of the arena. Eventually the guy was taken out, his wife started cursing Orton. Someone threw a drink in the ring that hit the ref. Orton told her to get out too and she was sent out.
Orton got tremendous heat from the fans. Back to the match. Cena gets in control but Orton hits RKO out of nowhere. Orton takes too long for the cover and Cena kicks out. Two minutes later, F-U, Cena wins.
After the match Cena says he likes this crowd because they are ruthless. He talks about Hustle, Loyalty, Respect. Says that he likes the fact that one of his friends were ruthless enough "to want to kick Randy Orton's ass."

JOHN CENA
High spots: After sustaining a torn pectoral injury, Cena made an unexpected, and victorious, return to the ring at the Royal Rumble last January. To bookend his astounding year, The Champ made a second triumphant return in November when he overcame neck surgery to capture the elusive World Heavyweight Championship for the first time from Chris Jericho at Survivor Series.
Low blows: While Cena basked in his glories, 2008 proved that even a seemingly impervious Superstar could be felled by injuries. For much of the year, the man whose love of wrestling is well documented was forced to watch from the sidelines as he recouped from career-threatening surgery.
Crystal ballin’: For Cena, priority one is staying healthy. If The Champ can manage to stay out of the operating room and in the ring, there’s no telling just how long his World Heavyweight Championship title reign will be.
RANDY ORTON
High spots: Entering the year as WWE Champion, the Legend Killer seared his place in history on the grandest stage in entertainment, retaining his title at WrestleMania XXIV, defeating archrivals John Cena and Triple H in a Triple Threat Match.
